Tour De France 1 - Alsace & Champagne
Week one of our four week event celebrating the most famous cycle race in the world - the Tour De France!
As luck would have it the route of the 2019 race takes the riders through some of the most famous wine regions in the world, and some not quite so famous as well.
The race starts in Belgium and try as we might, Belgian wine isn't that easy to come by, so we have cheated a little by substituting the fabulous Alsace wine region instead.
Alsace has some iconic wines from famous grapes such as Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer and we will sample all three in our wine flight tasting.
The race moves on to Epernay and Reims, which as anyone even remotely interested in wine knows is the epicentre for the product of the world's most famous wine - Champagne!
We will taste three Champagne's exploring the excellent value "grower's Champagne" category which is very popular in France, a remarkably good value supermarket own label before tasting a premium Champagne from a "Grand Marque" such as Moët & Chandon, Taittinger, Veuve Cliquot etc. A unique opportunity to compare three Champagne's, and decide whether the premium branded Champagne is worth the extra money?
Professional ISO tasting glasses, tasting sheets, course support materials, water biscuits and table water are provided at every session
