Tour De France 2 - Burgundy & Beaujolais
Week two of our four week event celebrating the most famous cycle race in the world - the Tour De France!
As luck would have it the route of the 2019 race takes the riders through some of the most famous wine regions in the world, and some not quite so famous as well. This week we visit two of the most famous, Burgundy and Beaujolais.
Burgundy is the home territory for both the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes and we will have the opportunity to try 2 examples of each. We will explore the difference in quality between a regional wine such as "Macon Villages AC" or "Hautes Cote de Beaune AC" with "Village" wines such as Chablis AC or Santenay AC. A rare opportunity to try some great wines from one of the most famous wine producing areas in the world.
Then the riders travel through the adjacent Beaujolais wine region. Beaujolais is a much misunderstood wine, being associated with "Beaujolais Noveau" a pretty uninspiring thin wine created largely for marketing purposes. Here we will sample proper Beaujolais; a good quality Beaujolais Villages AC and then one of France's best kept secrets, a wine from one the Beaujolais Crus., These are specific villages in the region that sell high quality wine under their own name such as Fleurie AC, Brouilly AC or Morgon AC. These wines are a world away from the image of Beaujolais Noveau and provide excellent value for money.
Professional ISO tasting glasses, tasting sheets, course support materials, water biscuits and table water are provided at every session
