4 Week Course - Good, Better, Best

4 Week Course - Good, Better, Best

This four week course will explore the different types and price points within a specific category of wine.

We will compare and contrast inexpensive supermarket wine with premium branded versions of the same grape. Is Cloudy Bay really that much better than another New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc priced at £5.99? This is your chance to find out, so if you love New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc this is your chance to taste this iconic wine, along with two others from the UK’s most popular white grape variety.

Similarly, we will look at the phenomenon that is Argentinian Malbec. A very popular type of wine it varies hugely in price from as little as £5.99 to £15-20. We will compare three Malbec’s from an “entry level” to a very serious grown up Malbec.

We will also explore the hierarchy of wines within such famous areas as Chianti, Rioja, Bordeaux and the Rhône valley. We will compare and contrast the “entry level” wines from these areas with their more famous (and much more expensive) “big brothers”.

For example, in Rioja we will taste the three main styles - Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva.

Over the course of the four weeks we will sample such iconic wine styles as Chateauneuf du Pape, Chinati Classico Riserva, St Estephe, Pouilly-Fuissé and Mosel Riesling Spätlese

Retail prices of wines will be from £6 to over £20

A course fee of £55 is payable when booking, this reserves your seat on the course. In addition there is a £10 charge payable on each evening to cover the cost of wine, water biscuits and materials. This spreads the cost of the course over the 4 weeks. The total course cost is £95 a saving of 20% vs if you booked each evening separately.

What if I can’t make one of the evenings?

Not a problem. You can either send a substitute, or obtain a credit voucher valid for other Shropshire Wine School courses and tastings. Courses run throughout the year.
