Virtual Christmas Wines
A new era is dawning for everyone involved in classrooms and events. Using modern technology, we can enjoy learning about our favourite wines (and gin) from the comfort and safety of our own homes. This has the added advantage that nobody needs to be the “designated driver”.
Using Zoom video conferencing is just like being in the room with Gary, who will, as ever educate, inform and entertain you for about an hour.
All sessions will be recorded and if you can't attend at the last minute just let us know so you can go through the event at your convenience later.
Why not invite your friends to make it a truly social experience?
Christmas is a wonderful time of the year to meet up with friends and family, exchange presents and share happy memories together. It’s also a very good excuse to enjoy some lovely food and fine wine.
Join Gary online as he takes you through an “ideal Christmas Day”. Unlike the real thing on the 25th December, these six wines are sampled over 3 weeks so you won’t get a hangover!
We start on Wednesday 2nd December with wines to consume before the main event in the afternoon.
There is nothing more decadent than a bottle of fizz at breakfast and here we sample a lovely Caves de Turckheim Organic Cremant d'Alsace NV, a traditional method sparkling wine from Eastern France. This goes very nicely with smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.
Next, whilst the dinner is cooking and perhaps whilst exchanging presents it’s time for a glass of Sherry. Unlike the traditional Sherry and Mince Pie left for Santa, we have a bone dry Fernando Castilla Manzanilla Sherry to sample – sensational with a few almonds to tide you over until lunch (nb supplied Sherry is a half bottle).
On Wednesday 9th December it’s time for wines with Christmas lunch.
Being a traditionalist, the obvious choice to go with the turkey is Chardonnay and here we have a lovely Chablis from 100-year old vines to sample - Domaine La Motte Chablis Vielles vignes 2017.
Although Chardonnay works brilliantly with turkey, if you want a red wine then perhaps a “Right Bank” Bordeaux wine may be appropriate (it would also work brilliantly if you have beef rather than a bird). Our sample is a Chateau Milon Grand Cru Saint Emilion 2018.
On Wednesday 16th December we conclude our “Ideal Christmas Day”
Finally, at some point after lunch (in our house quite a long time after lunch), it’s time for Christmas pudding. Something lusciously sweet is required and for the last few years we have indulged in a fabulous “PX” Sherry. Described as “Liquid Christmas Pudding” this dark brown intensely sweet fortified wine is a potential life-changing experience! Our sample is a Fernando Castille Pedro Ximenez.
What, you’re still hungry? Ok, let’s get out the cheeseboard and for this there can only be one accompaniment, a lovely bottle of Port. Our sample is Krohn Late Bottled Vintage Port.
£40 for all three sessions. The cost is per subscription, so this could be for 2 people (or more) as long as you are sharing a screen in the same household. Note: this does not include the cost of the wines (see below).
We have teamed up with Momentum Wines of Oswestry who can supply the exact same wine as I will be uncorking.
Simply visit the Momentum Wines website and place your order for these 8 wines at the fantastic price of just £110 inclusive of delivery (please allow one week for delivery).
