Portuguese Wine - Online
A new era is dawning for everyone involved in classrooms and events. Using modern technology, we can enjoy learning about our favourite wines (and gin) from the comfort and safety of our own homes. This has the added advantage that nobody needs to be the “designated driver”. Using Zoom video conferencing is just like being in the room with Gary, who will, as ever educate, inform and entertain you for about an hour.
All sessions will be recorded and if you can't attend at the last minute just let us know so you can go through the event at your convenience later.
Why not invite your friends to make it a truly social experience?
Portugal, for long in the shadow of its larger neighbour has undergone a wine revolution in recent years.
Whilst retaining its classic indigenous grapes that give its wines their unique character, improved vineyard management and wine making have tamed some of the fierce acidity and harsh tannins that gave Portugal a reputation of wines that needed years before becoming drinkable.
Traditionally, Portuguese wines have several indigenous grape varieties, many of which are hardly known outside Portugal. Its two most famous wines are at the opposite ends of the spectrum – light (and occasionally lightly sparkling) Vinho Verde and big, heavy and sweet Port.
In the middle of the spectrum, a lovely range of table wines, both white and red.
The traditional DOC wines of Portugal now sit alongside the more modern Vinho Regional classification system allowing blends of traditional indigenous grapes and international varieties
In this tasting, we compare a traditional Dão DOC wine, the origin of Portugal’s most famous grape – Touriga Nacional with a modern Lisbon Vinho Regional that combines Touriga Nacional and Tinto Roriz with Syrah.
All YOU have to do is purchase a ticket from the Shropshire Wine School website by clicking the "BOOK" button below, as you would normally. A ticket entitles ALL members of your household to join in. There is no need to buy one ticket per person. Once your ticket purchased, you will receive a confirmation email with your ZOOM web link and password 2 days before the event itself.
Then pop out and buy (or buy online) two wines to compare. The two I will be uncorking are:
• Agenda, Dão DOC Manager's Choice 2018 (Majestic)
• Behind Closed Doors Reserva Lisbon Vinho Regional 2017 (Majestic)
However, as usual just try to obtain similar wines if you can’t find an exact match
