Hungarian Wine - Online
A new era is dawning for everyone involved in classrooms and events. Using modern technology, we can enjoy learning about our favourite wines (and gin) from the comfort and safety of our own homes. This has the added advantage that nobody needs to be the “designated driver”. Using Zoom video conferencing is just like being in the room with Gary, who will, as ever educate, inform and entertain you for about an hour.
All sessions will be recorded and if you can't attend at the last minute just let us know so you can go through the event at your convenience later.
Why not invite your friends to make it a truly social experience?
Tonight we visit a country that is one of the oldest of wine produces and uses a technique that has almost been forgotten that is now enjoying a revival.
During the Austro-Hungarian Empire phase of history, Hungarian wines were on the dinner tables of the aristocratic families of Europe. With the end of Empire after WW1, a period of interwar instability and then Communism, Hungarian wines disappeared from view.
But now they are back with a vengeance as we look at two indigenous grape varieties that can hold their own against the very best.
Furmint, associated with Tokaji dessert wine, also makes fabulous dry white wine too, combining high acidity with a complexity of flavours and no little weight on the palate.
Kékfrankos, the main grape used in “Bull’s Blood” thrives in the Eger region of Hungary. 22 months in oak have made the tannins super soft and with appealing red fruit flavours and complex spices on the nose this is a wine that has a definite Burgundian element to it.
All YOU have to do is purchase a ticket from the Shropshire Wine School website by clicking the "BOOK" button below, as you would normally. A ticket entitles ALL members of your household to join in. There is no need to buy one ticket per person. Once your ticket purchased, you will receive a confirmation email with your ZOOM web link and password 2 days before the event itself.
For the wines you have a choice. You are welcome to pop out and buy wines of this style from wherever you usually buy wine from. Alternatively, we have teamed up with Momentum Wines of Oswestry who can supply the exact same wine as I will be uncorking.
